Leonard Heller

Leonard Heller, 91, of Palm Desert, Calif. passed away on April 3, 2016 of complications related to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, He was born on June 18, 1924 to Ruben Heller and Dorothy Ostroff in Brooklyn, NY. He was married to the love of his life, Anita Birman Heller for over 50 years.

Leonard was employed by Lockheed Aircraft in Sunnyvale, Calif. for over 30 years, as a design engineer. He was proud to have been part of the design team assigned to the navy on the systems that launched the Polaris missile from submarines.

He also served proudly in the U.S. Army where among other assignments, he was part of the assault on Normandy Beach. He was honored by the French government for his service to their country. He continued his service many years later by volunteering extensively for the Disabled American Veterans , chapter 78, in Palm Desert.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Kenn Heller (Babette), and Dennis Heller (Jackie); his companion, Sally Tenner, his former daughter-in-law, Colleen Heller, his grandchildren, Alexandra, Jonathan, Andrew, Joshua, and Kevin Heller; and his great-grandchildren Madelyn and Redwood.

Memorial Services with military honors will be held this Friday, April 8, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 69855 East Ramon Road, Cathedral City, CA 92234. The family will receive family and friends at Len's home at 37445 Golden Pebble Ave, Palm Desert, CA 92211.
